Liquefied Ionomer

Description
Perfluorinated sulfonic acid ionomer* is a superdispersion solution obtained by dissolving PFSA ionomer, a polymer with a chemically stable fluorine-based high acidity sulfonic acid (SO32-) group, in a specific solvent on a nano scale.

It is mainly used for manufacturing electrolyte membranes, which are key components such as fuel cells, redox flow cells, and water electrolysis due to its ability to transfer positive ions, and can be applied as a coating binder for other electrochemical catalyst slurries.

  • Perfluorinated sulfonic acid ionomer: Perfluorosulfonic Acid, PFSA
Main features
  • Maximized formation of three-phase interface in fuel cell electrode by super dispersion
  • Fabrication of high density electrolyte membrane by nano-scale particle size
  • Optimization of dispersion properties by controlling solvent composition
  • Improved long-term storage due to high dispersion stability

Perfluorinated sulfonic acid ionomer has excellent dispersion, which is very advantageous in terms of forming a three-phase interface within the fuel cell electrode. The maximized three-phase interface formation rate lowers the demand for expensive platinum-based catalysts, and the thin ionomer coating layer reduces the mass transfer resistance in the electrode. In addition, it has a small particle size, so it is possible to manufacture a dense electrolyte membrane. The high density of the membrane is very effective in reducing hydrogen gas permeability and reducing hydrogen ion diffusion resistance.
